On Friday, May 21, a 62-year-old Gulfport man was hit by two vehicles while running east on I-275 from southbound lanes near 22nd Avenue North. Both an SUV and a pickup truck hit him at about 7 p.m., and both drivers stopped to be questioned by police. Sergeant Steve Gaskins with the Florida Highway Patrol said that when Vehicles 1 and 2 were traveling southbound on I-275 near 22nd Avenue North, the man ran eastbound across the interstate and into their paths. The man died at the scene of the crash.
A Clearwater man was killed when his motorcycle crashed on Saturday, police said. The crash occurred around 4:14 pm at Sunset Point Road and World Parkway, according to Clearwater police. Witnesses told officers the motorcyclist ran a red light at the intersection and was speeding before the crash, which caused the accident. Police say the man was taken to a hospital where he later died. During the investigation, Sunset Point Road's westbound lanes and one eastbound lane were shut down.
