A 77-year-old Palmetto man was driving a sedan west on University Parkway in the left turn lane just before 2 p.m., approaching a red left arrow signal at Lakewood Ranch Boulevard on Thursday, reported by State Troopers. At the same moment, the pick-up truck that was being driven by the 40-year-old man was approaching a green traffic signal on University Parkway, FHP said. As the pick-up truck entered the intersection, the 77-year-old turned his sedan left in front of it. The front of the pickup truck hit the vehicle's right side. The driver was taken to a hospital, where she died. After rotating, the SUV overturned. The 21-year-old was rushed to the hospital, but he later died.
